Breast Health for Life!

Upfront with Breast Health

Revive Therapy is promoting “Breast Health for Life!” Focusing on breast “health” is a positive approach to health, healing, femininity and living a full life! Engage in healthy life practices, including professional breast health care. Instead of ignoring the chest or vigilantly doing monthly breast self exams (looking for cancer!), take a proactive approach for health and limit disease and body aches.

Breast Health for Life!

Healthy life practices improve overall health

  • Proper diet
  • Exercise
  • Stress management
  • Posture
  • Proper bra fitting
  • Breast self-care (daily self massage)
  • Regular breast therapy by trained professional

Diet. Maintaining a healthy diet is important for preventing cancer. Whole grain foods, less fat and generous amounts of fruits and vegetables improve health. Environmental contaminants (in air, water and food) should be avoided, if possible.

Exercise. Activity is healthy! Exercise increases circulation, enhances heart health, improves muscle tone, and reduces pain. Arm movement and stretching improve breast lymph flow and chest health. Stay within a healthy BMI.

Stress Management. Stress promotes disease and dysfunction, especially in the chest. Chest muscles and fascia tighten, which can cause upper body pain, decreased movement and restricted lymphatic flow. The sympathetic nervous system has been connected to breast cancer metastasis in restricted tissue.

Posture. Forward posture threatens breast health. Activities, habits and insecurity may contribute to poor posture and forward shoulders. This contributes to upper body pain, limited movement and impaired lymph flow.

Proper Bra Sizing:.Bra tightness is common and a risk to breast health. Bra sales may focus on cosmetic appearance instead of comfort and health. Proper bra sizing allows good circulation and lymphatic flow.

Daily Breast Care – Self Massage

All women should practice breast and chest health. Daily self-massage is easy and effective in reducing breast pain and optimizing tissue health. The most important points of breast massage is open lymphatic area in the arm pit (axilla) and massage the breast tissue. This allows natural cleansing of the breast tissue, filtration of debris and removing congested fluid and toxins. See the PHAST resource below, a simple guide to breast self massage.

Breast Massage Self-Care Protocol

Daily self-massage of the breasts is highly recommended and easy. Most women find it easiest to spend up to five minutes per day when the bra is removed or during bathing or showering. The most important aspect is to open the lymph nodes in the axilla (arm pit) and move the breast tissue on each side daily. The PHAST Breast Self Care Protocol is easy and fun!

  1. Pump the arm by pressing underarm
  2. Honk the horn (press breast against the ribs)
  3. Around the Clock (move opposite hand in circle around surface of breast)
  4. Support the breast and move side-to-side
  5. Turn or twist horizontally back and forth

Hazards to Chest Health

Stress, bra tightness and “forward” activities restrict chest tissues and impair function. Headaches, upper body pain and or shoulder/arm issues may be alleviated with chest therapy. Emotional healing and improved self-image may also be addressed through chest/breast therapy.

Breast Congestion

Fluids, toxins and cellular debris are present in the breasts and are normally cleared out by the lymphatic system. However, physical and emotional restrictions can impair normal drainage. These fluids and waste products can become trapped in breast tissue through restrictions caused by emotions, hormones, fibers (fibrocystic), posture, stress and tight bras. Healthy life practices (above) minimize congestion and clear the breasts. Breast drainage therapy by a trained therapist can effectively release physical and emotional restrictions, clearing accumulated fluids, toxins and debris and restoring breast tissue health.

Reduce Breast Cancer Risk

Healthy living, self-care and breast therapy may reduce breast cancer risk. Stress and unhealthy tissue have been linked to breast cancer metastasis. Daily breast self-massage and specialized bodywork can relieve pain, improve posture and optimize health. Discuss breast therapy at your next appointment. A family history of breast cancer makes this health message especially important!
